I’m Martin Philp, a Cornwall copywriter helping organisations in Penzance, St Ives, Hayle, Camborne, Truro and right across the county grow more awareness, leads and sales. In this post, I’ll explain why I may be the right person to help you and reveal some of the advantages of choosing a local provider like me.
If you’re in a hurry, here’s a short, bulleted version.
If that isn’t enough, here’s the longer version with all the details of why you should choose this Cornwall copywriter for your website copy, blog posts, content branding, client newsletters, social campaign and more.

These days, to be a good copywriter, you can’t just be a copywriter.
As well as having the ability to write creative, persuasive prose that prompts an action (a click, enquiry or purchase), you need to understand the world of business.
Because I’ve spent over 30 years as a copywriter and worked with a wide variety of commercial organisations, I can quickly get to know what makes them tick. I ask the right questions about their customers, unique selling propositions, competitors and business processes, to put the pieces in place for an effective campaign.
Most importantly, I use my skillset as a journalist to interview business leaders and draw out the unique and passionate ways they talk about their business. Bringing this authentic language into copy introduces a genuine and convincing tone to your messaging as opposed to the dead-eyed cliches that populate most content. (Harsh, but I think fair when you read most commercial websites.)
Two points below. I’d imagine the first of these is definitely going to matter to you. The second one might, too.
Accountability
As you'll probably know, businesses on the internet can play tricks on you and 'Cornwall copywriter' may well return you a provider based on an industrial estate in Stoke. I'm a copywriter who actually lives in Penzance. There’s a we-might-bump-into-each-other-in-Sainsbury’s factor that should reassure you as a client. I’m too near you to ghost you or deliver second-rate copy and run. (For the record, I wouldn't dream of doing that, either!)
Local knowledge
From tourism businesses to local building firms, my understanding of Cornwall’s topography and register (meaning tone of voice) can really make a difference. If your target market is local, I’m not going to go all ‘me ‘andsome’ on you. But I will avoid the brassy tone that turns off some Cornish people and instead sprinkle copy with local references that can do wonders for authenticity. (On this note, virtually every local business I speak to says, 'We don't want any of that marketing BS speak.' I promise: I won't give you any of that marketing BS speak.)
Quick bio. I was born and bred in Hayle, escaped to London, then escaped back to Cornwall. As well as my day job as a Cornwall copywriter, I’ve also written a book of short stories about Cornish folk which won the Gorsedh Kernow Holyer an Gof Awards for best fiction.

For over 15 years, I worked as a solo copywriter. Later, I teamed up with my partner, Gargi Shastri – a former TV presenter and radio producer, and current digital marketing specialist – to create a small-but-nimble content marketing agency.
From your point of view, this means I can do far more than just copywriting. Along with Gargi, I can also help you with your overall content marketing strategy – if that’s what you’re looking for – by managing entire campaigns or becoming your outsourced marketing department. I can look after strategy, content delivery, reporting, managing website builds, social management, and photography and video. Everything, basically, that will help get you seen and heard.

Here’s the full rundown of what I do for clients locally. But please bear in mind that you don’t necessarily need to pick or mix or know where each fits in the big picture. Come to me with a content marketing problem and I’ll tailor a solution using the elements below, according to your budget.
Copywriting for sales materials. Carefully crafted sales messages shot through with a local sensibility if required, to persuade customers to enquire and buy. For landing pages, brochures, sales sheets, newsletters, email campaigns etc.
SEO copywriting for websites. As above, but with an understanding of search engine optimisation, website architecture and metadata. I know what to write, where, to help you rank in Google and Bing, and AI search results.
Content writing for blogs. Different from copywriting. Less salesy, more informational and helping to raise awareness about your business – the kind of thing you’ll read in a ‘how to’ guide. (Side note: is this kind of content still relevant in a world of AI? 100%, because it's your content you want cited and picked up in AI summaries.)
Newsletters. Ask me to design your newsletter from the ground up – everything from the title to the running order of regular sections. I can then manage the production schedule, interview your in-house team, and write all copy – proofread – ready to go live. This is a great way to grow engagement with potential clients and keep existing clients aware of your full range of services.
Informational writing for case studies and tenders. Stripped of salesy tone and calmly convincing your reader to choose your services.
Content branding. Got only a hazy sense of your business’s voice? Ask me to run a workshop to define your tone of voice, ethos, purpose and mission. This can be invaluable for your own customer-facing comms and your internal comms, to ensure everyone speaks the same language to customers.
Content strategy. Content branding, complete SEO website copy, blog strategies, marketing funnels and downloadable assets – I can help you with your complete marketing strategies and offer preferential rates to Cornwall businesses.
More reach and engagement for Cornish IT company Aztek
Based in Camborne, IT and cyber security expert Aztek was struggling to meet the demand for high-quality content.
I helped the team to develop formats and approaches for case studies, service pages, blog posts, newsletters, values and ethos content, and award entries – and then delivered a pipeline of high-quality content that reflected the people and the brand.

There has been a 74% increase in engagement on LinkedIn in the last six months and a 238% increase in blog views. Perhaps the biggest benefit has been a distinct new voice – an authoritative, approachable tone that reveals the business's expertise, humanity and personality.
The internal marketing team now receives a regular pipeline of high-quality content to ‘feed the marketing channels’, giving them time to work on wider marketing strategies.
Commercial Director Simon Davies says, 'We've partnered with Martin on a number of projects and have been consistently impressed by the quality of his work. His content is thoughtful, well-crafted, and always delivered on time. Martin brings a calm, organised approach to every task and communicates with clarity and professionalism. A real pleasure to work with.'
Cyber security business Intersys wins lucrative new clients

This growing cyber security and IT business is based in the South East with a regional office in Hayle.
For several years, Coast has looked after the business's marketing strategy, including SEO campaigns and copywriting, blog campaigns, newsletters, gated content and more.
During the first few years of our working together, website users grew from .5k to 3.5k per month. More recently, with the huge changes in search results, we have succeeded in helping our client feature prominently in AI citations.
The business is winning high-value clients, directly from the website, which continues to be their primary generator of leads.
MD Matthew Geyman says, 'Martin, Gargi and the team at Coast are experts at quickly understanding the nub of any matter and conveying it through compelling, interesting, articulate, entertaining and insightfully written articles. I trust their insights and lucid articulation.'
Love Penzance website doubles traffic

Managed by Penzance BID, Love Penzance is a tourism website designed to increase holiday and day trip visits for the benefit of the local community.
I created an SEO campaign to increase keyword ranking and engage more users with lively, humorous content across the main website and the blog.
My work resulted in:
Todd Barden, former BID manager, says, 'Coast's content writing will more than pay for itself in promoting your business.’
Shopping centre grows reach and community engagement

The Wharfside Shopping Centre in Penzance asked for help boosting its presence locally, and the visibility of its on-site retailers. I took on the socials, developing a fun and inspiring Penzance voice promoting the centre and the town.
I adopted a journalistic approach, regularly interviewing vendors about their businesses. This was complemented by photography and video, and drone footage – now available to all clients – highlighting the beauty of the surrounding area.
Posts regularly reach 4-8k people and receive 40 to several hundred likes. In the first 10 months of the campaign, follower numbers on Facebook and Instagram doubled. Numbers continue to rise.
My work includes planning and reporting, interviewing, photography, video, post-production of images and video, and monitoring the social accounts.
Tom Marsden, MD of the Wharfside Shopping Centre, says, 'Fantastic copy, clear reporting, great service! Would highly recommend!'
Roofing company expands team due to website success

Based in Hayle, Summit Roofing Solutions was my very first SEO copywriting client way back in 2012.
My work included writing the entire website with SEO-optimised content, to bring in more leads, and then converting those leads with powerful messages.
The website rose swiftly in rankings and the business owner chased his tail to hire more employees to cope with demand.
‘Coast has achieved our goals with amazing results which can be seen by all when searching for a roofer or roofing in Cornwall.’
Adam Palmer, Owner, Summit Roofing Solutions.

If you call me, I’ll be in listening mode, so I can understand what you’re looking for. Then, I’ll ask a few questions about your business, and sketch out first thoughts based on your requirements.
If you like the sound of my approach, I’ll provide you with a quote and explain exactly how the process works, so you’ll be clear about what my services offer and what I need from you. Nothing will be left to vagaries and there will be no nasty surprises.
Then, if I don’t hear from you after a couple of weeks, I’ll send you an email once to enquire and, after that, won’t bother you again. No newsletters. No snail mail with a ‘free gift’ plastic pen inside.
If, on the other hand, you like what I have to say and want to work with me, we can start talking copywriting…
